July ITCamp Online Meetup

Our friends and families have all reacted in their own ways to this pandemic. Some piled up toilet paper and flour, making stocks to last a year. Some go about their days as normal, careful. Others are trying to make the most of their continuous self-isolation. And some consider it’s all fake.

No matter how we’re dealing with COVID-19, the anxiety we all share about the future is valid. But it can also fuel our curiosity and desire for learning. Because learning is all about the experiences and interactions we have.

We’re social.
We interact with people.
We listen to what they’re saying.
And then try to apply or consider the insights that person shared with us (and, of course, the other way around).

When it comes to learning, there are 3 key pain points in finding the right and most relevant content:
  • there’s too much content out there
  • you can’t always verify the quality
  • is it up-to-date?
This is ITCamp Community’s big WHY.
Our own Why we’re here: there’s so much to share, and so much to learn! ITCamp Community makes up the perfect setting for keeping up with what’s new in tech or best practices.

And today we’re happy to announce our newest online meetup: join us online on July 9th at 4.15 PM (EEST)We’ll focus on cloud architecture and ways of securing the move into the cloud. We’ll continue with the role that the cloud plays within Digital Transformation initiatives. The focal point being the technical aspects of challenges companies usually face:
  • governance
  • security
  • change management
  • cost-control.
ITCamp’s in-person or online meetups are totally free.
Register, save the date in your calendar and when the time comes, grab your favorite beverage and tune in to watch the sessions!

Cloud Architecture and Securing the Move to Cloud

Ahmed Nabil, Cloud and Datacenter Management MVP, Microsoft Regional Director

Whether people admit or not, everyone is moving to the cloud and all future businesses will run somewhere on the internet. Moving to the cloud requires a different set of architecture and mindset. Data is stored, accessed, and processed on different platforms and devices. Employees are working anywhere from the world, corporate data is no more under company IT custody. CISOs and CIOs need to think differently and set a new Cloud Security Architecture. This session will try to draw the main areas of concern from a Security perspective while moving to the cloud.

event = new (ITCamp Community Online Meetup)

With the 10th edition of ITCamp Conference postponed for next year and all in-person meetups canceled until it’s safe for us to gather again in closed spaces, we’re turning on the online switch.

We’re keeping the same format as you’re already used to, but with speakers who wouldn’t normally be able to join us. Before the pandemic, everyone was suffering from a lack of time. Lack of time to squeeze in community meetings in between business travels and personal time, lack of time to attend community events and so on.

Join us online on June 4th at 4.15 PM (EEST) for three sessions on AI and Machine Learning.

ITCamp Community Online Meetups are the perfect places to keep up with what’s new in tech, and learn about some of the trendiest technologies such as AI, ML, Cloud, and security or other topics that you’re interested in – just share it with us.

ITCamp in-person, as well as the new online meetups, are totally free. Register, and when the time comes, grab your favorite beverage and tune in to watch three 40-minute sessions.

Improving documents management with AI: recognizing forms and understanding documents.

Mihai Tataran, CEO Avaelgo

In many industry verticals there is a huge demand for automating documents and forms understanding. For example, in Real Estate there are many paper / scanned documents (e.g. contracts, addendums) which are kept in a document management system as PDFs (scans), but data from those contracts needs to go into systems like: a billing system, the accounting system, reports / view aggregates, etc. In this session we will explore how we can do just that: understand the content of documents and forms.

Making Kubernetes Serverless with KEDA

Florin Loghiade

KEDA (Kubernetes-based Event-Driven Autoscaling) is an opensource project built by Microsoft in collaboration with Red Hat, which provides event-driven autoscaling to containers running on an AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) cluster. KEDA allows for fine-grained autoscaling (including to/from zero) for event-driven Kubernetes workloads. KEDA serves as a Kubernetes Metrics Server and allows users to define autoscaling rules using a dedicated Kubernetes custom resource definition. Most of the time, we scale systems (manually or automatically) using some metrics that get triggered. For example, if CPU > 60% for 5 minutes, scale our app service out to a second instance. By the time we’ve raised the trigger and completed the scale-out, the burst of traffic/events has passed. KEDA, on the other hand, exposes rich events data like Azure Message Queue length to the horizontal pod auto-scaler so that it can manage the scale-out for us. Once one or more pods have been deployed to meet the event demands, events (or messages) can be consumed directly from the source, which in our example is the Azure Queue. In this session, we will talk about KEDA, deploy a Function to it, and see where we can use it in production.

Security & Compliance in the Cloud

Tudor Damian, Certified Ethical Hacker, Microsoft Cloud and Datacenter Management MVP, CIO Avaelgo

Almost every business decision requires executives and managers to balance risk and reward, and efficiency in that process is essential to an enterprise’s success. Too often though, IT risk (business risk related to the use of IT) is overlooked. While other business risks such as market, credit and operational risks have long been incorporated into the decision-making processes, IT risk has usually been relegated to technical specialists outside the boardroom, despite falling under the same risk category as other business risks: failure to achieve strategic objectives.

With the emergence of the Cloud, IT risk has suffered yet another radical transformation. The past couple of years have also brought along new vulnerabilities, exploits and attack methods, as well as new data privacy requirements such as the GDPR. While all of these things require significant changes to any existing processes and tools, they mostly require a different approach when catering to people’s IT security awareness, especially when moving to the Cloud.
